Great Steps4NF Walks take place in communities nationwide.  These inspiring events create strong bonds that build a supportive NF community.  The goal of these strong communities is to rally together and become one great voice in finding affective treatments and an eventual cure for NF.  The walks are a great way to involve family and friends, meet others who are affected by NF, while raising awareness of this disorder and to create funding for NF research.

How You Can Get Involved

1. Register and/or contributecreate a fundraising pageshare it on your social media accounts and use the online software from Raisin to upload your email address book and send emails inviting your friends, family and colleagues to participate with you or contribute to your efforts. Update it regularly to keep your story, the Walk and NF in the news.

2. Form a team (think up a name and theme), bring a pop-up tent as a staging ground for your team, have a pre-walk fundraising event such as Trivia Night or a cookout to raise extra funds & compete for a “Top Team” award, donate an item for the Raffle/Silent Auctionstart a pledge drive in your neighborhood or office (forms below). Be original and have fun, the sky’s the limit.

3. Ask local businesses to display a Walk Poster, to donate event supplies or raffle/silent auction items or to become a Business Sponsor (forms below).

4. Ask your employer about Matching Gifts including registration fees & matching the money you raise, or to allow employees a jeans day at the office for a donation to NF or to become a Business Sponsor (forms below).

Here’s are a few tips to get you started with your fundraising efforts:

  • The #1 reason people give to charities is, “Because they are asked”.
  • Whether you are creating an online fundraising page or fundraising face-to-face, tell/write your personal NF story about why you’re participating in the Great Steps4NF Walk, include a photo, provide/show this when asking for donations.
  • Make a self-donation to lead by example and show your commitment to the cause.
